Walter Zangerle

Walter Zangerle

1946 - Imst - Tyrol (A)

Being a teacher at the local lower secondary school and son of one famous mask carver in town, Walter Zangerle decided at the age of 30 to attend the Sculpture School in Innsbruck, where he acquired and improved his technique which let him realise sculptures in the round and, above all, refined Carnival masks.

Since then, he has tried his hand at carving the leading subjects of the Imst Carnival, while realising refined, oil-coloured masks provided with their accessories which make them wonderful and unique.

He attended several exhibitions in Austria, Germany and Belgium and was often awarded.

He joined the “Mascherai Alpini” Association in 2006.

He mainly uses Swiss Pine wood for his masks.
